Carole Critchlow Winkler passed away in San Antonio, Texas on December 25th, 2023, surrounded by her family at the age of 81. She was born on January 11th, 1942, in Boise, Idaho to Clarence and Olamae Critchlow.
She served in the US Army as a WAC from 1961 to 1963. While stationed in Germany she met the absolute love of her life William E. Winkler.
Carole was a Teacher's Aide in Special Education for many years until she had the privilege of retiring from work to raise her twin granddaughters. She enjoyed ceramics, cooking, canning, cross-stitch, eating out and spending time with her grandchildren; but...most of all she was an amazing quilter!
Carole was preceded in death by her parents: Clarence and Olamae Critchlow, and her husband of 52 years William E. Winkler. Survivors include her sister Catherine Critchlow Williams (John) of Bloomfield, MO, her brother Anthony Critchlow (Dennise) of Boise, ID, son Robert C. Winkler (Audrey) of San Antonio, her daughter Jolene R. Winkler of Sugar Land, her grandchildren Clay A. Winkler (Virginia) of Pensacola, FL, Robert Austin Winkler (Brooke) of San Marcos, Taylor Renee Winkler of Jacksonville, Florida and Hannah Marie Winkler of Hondo. Four great-grandchildren Ryder, Bailey, Wyatt, and William.
A memorial service and inurnment will be held at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery on Friday, June 28, 2024, at shelter #3 at 11:15 a.m.
Services are under the direction of Hondo Funeral Home.
