Charles H. “Buddy” Norman born January 18, 1932, passed away peacefully at his home on September 20, 2024.
Buddy was born in Dyersburg, Tenn. on January 18, 1932, to W. Hollis and Mary H. Banks Norman and was raised in Lubbock Texas. After graduating from Lubbock High School in1950, he enlisted in the U.S Marine Corp where he went to battle in Korea, served in Camp Le June and Quantico. While in Korea, he received several awards including the Korean Presidents Unit Citation. He was so proud to serve his country and to be a Marine. After completing his service, he returned to Lubbock and attended Texas Tech University. While there he met and married the love of his life, Norma Jean “Jeanie” Buchanan on January 7, 1955.
He worked many years for the Frito Lay co. serving the Crystal City area, then for Del Tex in Del Rio, operated his own candy business in Uvalde where was known as the Candy Man, and lastly as the friendly locksmith in Uvalde at A-1 Lock and Key where he retired in 2018. He focused on his hobbies, writing stories, poetry, songs, and having breakfast every morning at Rosemary’s Sunrise restaurant with friends. He belonged to the VFW in Uvalde, and he found great joy in the company of his family and friends. Buddy always had a smile on his face, a song in his heart, and he never met a stranger. He was also known for telling a good joke.
Buddy is preceded in death by his loving wife Jeanie Norman, his parents, his brother Jerry Norman and sister Betty Appleby. He is survived by his daughters, Lynnette Caston and her husband Larry of San Antonio, Diana Kral and husband Steve of Springfield Mo., Sheila Morgan and husband Phil of San Antonio, and Lisa Arnim and husband Otto of Uvalde; Grandchildren Cory and Jennifer Caston of Galveston, Leslie Caston of El Paso, Lindsey Caston Castillo and Mauricio of Virginia, Brittany Kral Ackley and Mike of Georgia, Zack Kral and Jess of Mo., Candice Morgan Anthony and Ryan of Houston, Catlin Morgan of San Antonio, Charlie Arnim of College Station, Sidney Arnim and fiancé Ryan Powell of Mansfield, Otto Arnim 4th of Mansfield, and greatgrandchildren, Dakota and Autumn Caston, Analise and Julian Castillo, Colton and Bryson Ackley, Aiden Wilson, and two new ones on the way.
He will be missed by his family and all who shared his life. A memorial service will be held in Uvalde on October 9th at 8:30 a.m. in the Herby Ham Senior Citizens Center to follow with services held at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery on October 9th, 2024, at 2:30 p.m., shelter #3.
